Blog v Wiki

A blog is an online journal that displays information on the website. It has a reverse-chronological format, and it also links to news articles, documents, and other blogs. Wiki is like a crowdsourced library of knowledge and it has strong team support. Blog and Wiki are similar in sharing knowledge and new information. However,  they have many differences. The blog has limited collaboration while Wiki has unlimited teamwork. Moreover, the blog is built to attract attention to its own business and product, the blog brings personal news and information which affect this world. As Kathy state this point in her article that “Some analysts suggest that blogs are poised to be the next generation opinion/editorial page. Bloggers already carry out the role of grassroots reporter and fact-checker.”  And wiki doesn’t benefit from the content and it is more professional.

The convergence of the networking world offers convenience and flexibility. Today we can’t leave media and technology and we do many things like video streaming, internet shopping, and media social with peers. There is no doubt that convergence networked world is the evolving networking and systems. Network convergence includes a multi-model communication platform that can broaden our use. I believe blogs and wikis are both the results of network convergence.

Even though the blog has limited collaboration, it still can be used for collaboration. We can see some functions of the blog are good for teamwork, such as blogrolls and comments under blogs. There are links and contents of other people in the blogroll, it’s helpful for us to keep in touch with our peers. People can use the blog’s comments to tighten their communications. In the article Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid, we see how neighborhoods use blogs to help them deal with drug problems. As this article said “a core group of seven people who met through the blog brought the case to the attention of the community board …… A group of people who did not know each other came together and traded information.”

Wiki develops many different fields, like education and shopping. My idea about the new use of a wiki is that connection with eating and dining. Each dining can create their own wiki community and they can work with the consumer. They can edit information about the dining and the food together.
